On Wednesday, New York Jets wide receiver Corey Davis announced his retirement from the NFL. He revealed his reasons through a post on his personal Instagram , saying he had been thinking about leaving football for a while.

Davis posted an image of the Jets squad on the football field accompanied by the text, “For some time now, I’ve been contemplating stepping away from the sport of football.”

The next sentence reads, “This decision has not been easy. Although I am a deep person, I am a man of few words. I’ve been searching my heart for what to do and feel that stepping away from the game is the best path for me at this time.”

NFL analyst Connor Hughes reported on X, indicating that Davis had informed his teammates about his plan to retire from the NFL on Tuesday night. Hughes also confirmed that Davis had previously been considering this retirement plan.

In a press conference, the Jets’ head coach, Robert Saleh, also revealed that the team was aware of Davis’ retirement. He noted that Davis will always be part of the Jets’ family.

“My heart goes out to him and his family,” Saleh said. “We’ll always him in any decision he makes. We’re always here if he needs us.”

Furthermore, Davis’ Jets teammate, wide receiver Randall Cobb, expressed his thoughts on Davis’ retirement, saying, “Life is bigger than football. I wish him well, and I’m going to be in his corner.”

According to Yahoo report, Davis had missed a few practices for personal reasons. Jets owner Woody Johnson thanked Davis for his professionalism and dedication to the franchise over the past two years. During his time with the Jets, Davis played 22 games and received 66 es for 1,028 yards.

Davis began his college career with the Western Michigan Broncos in 2013, setting school freshman records as a wide receiver with 67 receptions for 941 yards. In 2014, he recorded 78 receptions for 1,408 yards and 15 touchdowns during his sophomore year.

In 2017, he was drafted No. 5 overall by the Tennessee Titans and spent four years there. He played 56 games, receiving 205 es for 2,851 yards. Davis accumulated 273 receptions for 3,879 yards and 17 touchdowns in 78 career games throughout his six-year NFL career.
