Aaron Rodgers, a quarterback for the Green Bay Packers, and Ben Silverman, a professional golfer for the PGA Tour, have won the 2023 Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
As he was crowned champion at Pebble Beach, Rodgers will have his name added to Pebble Beach Wall of Champions, ing the likes of Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer.
Rodgers, who had spent 18 years playing in Tahoe but couldn’t make it past the eighth round, explained how significant the achievement was.
The Californian native, who has participated in the tournament nine times, said, “It’s really significant. It’s always been on my bucket list.”
The 39-year-old said he had had a positive outlook regarding the partnership since the beginning. He had anticipated that they would have a fantastic time together despite having not played golf for a week before the tournament.
Silverman, who won the Korn Ferry Tour event earlier this month, finished at even-par 216 and missed the cut by one shot.
The pair shot 26 under par to finish one stroke ahead of Peter Malnati, who teamed up with FedEx former president and CEO Don Colleran. Both Malnati and Colleran’s names are already on the wall.
Rodgers itted that he lacked self-assurance upon entering the venue on Day 1. On Monday, he shot an 86 at Sherwood and had a couple of balls for a few holes. On Tuesday, he teed it off at Cypress with his caddie and pal, Neal ElAttrache.
The Green Bay quarterback explained that something had changed when he got to Spyglass Hill, which helped him conquer the windy course. Then, on Friday, Rodgers shot a strong round at Monterey Peninsula.
“I shot 86 at Sherwood on Monday, and that was with a couple balls in my pocket on some holes. And I played at Cypress on Tuesday with a good friend of mine, Neal ElAttrache,” Rodgers said.
“My caddie was out there with me too. If you would have seen that, you wouldn’t have expected anything this week. But something clicked in when I went to Spy. Had a good round at Monterey Peninsula on Friday. Then, we battled the wind the last couple days.”
High winds on Saturday forced the cancellation of the final round, which was rescheduled to Sunday afternoon.
